Full PubKit snippet gets off the ground

30 Apr 2010 MODx

Basic local testing of the expanded PubKit range of front-end document creation tools for MODx Evolution is complete, and PubKit 0.6 has been installed on Pogwatch. This item is the first to be written using it.

Pogwatch has also been updated to MODx 1.0.3, by downloading the entire site, an overwrite-style upgrade and upload back to the server.

As well as blogs, PubKit can help create MODx resources for publication as news items, events listings etc, using PHP classes to encapsulate the differences between the different kinds of item. It can also handle custom database records, again defined in classes. Documentation and downloads to follow on this site, and demos on the Pog Academy.

And this is written after uploading

The blog post was written on my local setup, then I uploaded the files to the server. Rather an uncomfortable few minutes with QuickManager errors before I realized I hadn't also uploaded the new database!

is PubKit 0.6 a new version? Don't know if I get that right.

Would like to install pkBlog the next days and if you have got updates, I could test them on my environment.

Is PubKit 0.6 a new version of pkBlog?

It's a fuller version, closer to my original intention to have a general-purpose front-end editing environment for document-based resources like news items, blog posts, events, and also custom records. I've started documenting it on this site (no menu link, but you can have a look at pogwatch.com/pubkit if you like, some pages are blank, the listings are mostly views of live code). I've just gone live with www.walthamband.com using PubKit to make my life as editor easier; the Players section uses the custom DB records, and the gallery, guestbook and contacts page also use classes and some of the PubKit features.
I'll try to put up a generalized download package this weekend. It would be great if you could help try it out. If you need to get going with the established pkBlog package (1.4.2), upgrading to PubKit later is quite easy.
